The Miami Dolphins game against the New Orleans Saints is keeping me up later than I’d like to be. All I can say for sure it’s that I wish we would’ve played them last year instead of this year, but it is what it is thus we must move forward with our schedule. I took a look at this game 2 days ago, based on Miami’s success against Atlanta and now, as the Monday night game approaches and I sit wide awake at this late hour, I wanted to take a deeper look at our next foe. I don’t think I’m revealing any secrets here folks, this is quite a foe.
We know a few things about New Orleans; they use a zone blocking offense and their DC is Blitz happy Rob Ryan who has some of the best DE’s in football. New Orleans also has a very good coach and a formidable Super Bowl winning QB, who to this day, has not forgotten about how the Dolphins’ Drs. told him that his chances of a full recovery after shoulder surgery, were less than 25%. He doesn’t seem to want to shut up about it either.
Here’s the thing, the Saints seem to do better on offense when they don’t face 3rd and long, so stuffing or at least slowing down their running game and TE’s on 1st and 2nd downs is going to be key. But wait, there’s more… the Saints love to use tailback screens and love to use Darren Sproles for that purpose, which can lead to 2nd and short or 3rd and short, which they love, because they tend to do better than average in that sort of manageable situation.
