AFC East Preview: Dolphins, Patriots both face tough tests this week

The Miami Dolphins are off to their best start in a decade.  But, their good start is only good enough for a share of first place with the New England Patriots.  While the Dolphins have had 2 tough games against 2012 playoff teams (Colts & Falcons), the Patriots have beaten up on the Jets, Bills, and Bucs.  Now is when the true tests start coming for the Patriots.  Now we’ll get to see what they’re really made of.  As for the Dolphins, their brutal early schedule doesn’t get any easier, as they prepare to face back-to-back Super Bowl winning QBs.

the Jets, meanwhile, have been quietly good enough to squeak out victories over the Bucs and Bills, leaving them just 1 game back of the Dolphins and Patriots.  The Bills have lost 2 games to other AFC East opponents.  In fact, the only losses within the AFC East have been to other teams in the division.  Not too bad for a division that many thought would be among the worst in football, huh?

Anyway, let’s take a look at the week that was and the week ahead for the members of the AFC East:

New England Patriots (3-0 overall, 2-0 division)

If the playoff started today, the Patriots would win the East, due to their 2-0 record.  The Dolphins haven’t played an AFC East game yet, which is why looking at the playoffs this early is crazy.  Last week, the Patriots did a number on a bad Tampa Bay team.  Although Brady was missing Gronk and Amendola, the Patriots still cruised to an easy victory.  This week, the test is much harder.  The Patriots head to Atlanta to take on a 1-2 Falcons team that needs a win in the worst way.  Now that the Dolphins are done playing them, I hope the Falcons get healthy this week.  It would be great to see them knock off the Pats and help out the rest of the AFC East!
