The Miami Dolphins are just 5 days away from opening the 2013 season in Cleveland. While the bottom of the roster is being churned, it’s the Dolphins highest draft pick of 2013 that is the biggest story. Yes, it appears that Dion Jordan has recovered from his shoulder injury and has been practicing at full speed with the rest of the team. It is now believed that Jordan will be ready for Sunday’s season opener against the Browns.
On Monday, Kevin Coyle said that the following:
“He got a good amount of reps in practice today, so we’re excited about that,” defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle said Monday. “At the end of the week, we’ll feel better to judge where he’s at. But he’s going to have a significant role in the game plan this week, I guarantee you that.”
The fact that Jordan has been slowed by injury and played in only 2 preseason games, doesn’t seem to have impacted his ability to crack the lineup. Coyle suggesting that Jordan will have a ‘significant role’ in the game plan, tells me that the Dolphins have been cautious with Jordan, but are just about ready to unleash him.
I expect the Dolphins to use him on obvious passing downs, with his hand in the dirt…..or even standing him up as a linebacker. Remember, he dropped into coverage quite a bit in college, even covering opposing wide receivers at times. Now, I don’t expect him to cover NFL wide receivers, but I could see situations where he would drop and cover tight ends/running backs. It will be interesting to see how much the Dolphins put on his plate, considering his limited practice/preseason time.
