Dolphins are favorites ‘right now’ for Manning, in Schefter’s opinion

Peyton Manning as QB of the Miami Dolphins?  It might not be as crazy as we once thought.  In fact, in Adam Schefter’s opinion, the Miami Dolphins are the favorites to land Peyton Manning.  Keep in mind, this is Schefter’s opinion and he is not reporting that the Dolphins are definitely going to get Manning.  However, in his ESPN insider article, Schefter is asked where Manning might end up.  In our opinion, guys like Schefter often share their opinions when they are based on something they know or have heard.  Not saying this is absolutely the case, but if you want Peyton Manning on the Dolphins, it’s a good sign that a true insider like Schefter, thinks they have the best shot.

Schefter says that Miami is the favorite right now because they can offer him warm weather and a favorable contract.  He does caution readers by saying that the ‘favorite’ status didn’t work out so well for the Patriots on Sunday.  This is all predicated on the belief that the Colts will decide to cut Peyton before his March 8th roster bonus of $28 mil is due.  Again, once released, Peyton Manning will be a free agent and free to sign with any team that he chooses.

We will keep you posted on Manning’s status, since it seems to change by the day.  If he’s released, it’s going to be a circus.  If you think the LeBron James free agency tour was crazy, just wait until the future Hall of Fame QB is released.

I think Peyton should go to the Titans. He could play in TN then just like college. He would also get to play the Colts twice a year which would be fun. Let’s face it Hasselbeck is not going to take the Titans anywhere.

But Jake Locker is still a very good rookie QB so I think they’re not going to take Manning. Jake Locker is certainly gonna take the titans somewhere.

Since football season is now over all the writers are going have to dream up more stories. And by march everyone will be sick of hearing about where Peyton is going.

JJ – I agree with you…The Peyton story isn’t going anywhere though….It’s not that often that a future Hall of Fame QB becomes available on the open market. I’m already tired of it and I hope he decides on a team quickly!

  • KillerFin

We do not want Manning he’s an injury waiting to happen!!! GET FLYNN HERE!!! Quit WASTING speculation on getting Mannig already!!!

KillerFin – It’s interesting, the fan base is pretty split on Manning vs. Flynn or RG3. Most fans believe the Peyton Manning of old is the quickest way to turn the team around…the question is, is it the best way (that’s where the disagreement comes in). We will continue to cover the story because it is a very real possibility that Peyton is going to get cut and it’s no secret that Stephen Ross wants him. He could actually be the Dolphins QB next year…If that happens, I believe that the best thing to do would be to bring in a rookie QB via the draft (Tannehill/Weeden/etc)…that way you have Peyton, Matt Moore and a QB of the future to learn under Peyton.

The problem with Peyton is…are we going to get the Peyton of old, or is this going to be another Culpepper situation where we end up missing out on a potential franchsie QB because of it? Don’t get me wrong – I’ll take Peyton any day as long as he is healthy and has no ill effects from his surgery….but that there are no guarantees. We are better off grabbing Flynn and then drafting RGIII (make it work somehow). We are not going to instantly go to the Super Bowl in a year, but build the foundation for years to come. Trust me – I live in NE and am sick of seeing how successful they have been year in and year out. We need to be patient and get on the right track. Let Peyton sign somewhere else….

Can we please move on? Peyton is done as a QB.It just isn’t official yet.Do you really want to be the franchise he becomes a quadriplegic for? You want to waste more time in our QB search holding your breath evey snap, watching for a spark from the past? His skill set was already in decline and a reduction in mobility and a lengthy period of inactivity is going to help how? Put the deal together for RGIII or sign Flynn or anything moving into the future.I love and respect Peyton, but his future is behind him.Now onward through the fog !!!!

    • KillerFin

RGIII IS A V.Y. WAITING TO HAPPEN TOO!!! Flynn is the better option!!!

  • newengfinfan

I’m with Killfin. We don’t need this headache. Hasn’t this organization learned from past failures? Culpepper, Pennington etc. Manning gets some doctor to sign him off to return to football, still has no feeling in his arm. Sounds like a big mistake. Every year same crap with same results. How much longer do we fans continue to cheer on a team that is destained to fail every year.

You can compare Manning to Culpepper… or to Pennington.
You can compare Flynn to Schaub… or to Kolb.
You can compare RG3 to VY… or to Newton.

No one knows for sure. But I’ll tell you what: if Manning is healthy, his ceiling for the next two years is better than anyone on that list. The last time he threw a pass in the NFL, he was the reigning MVP. I’ll happily take that risk.

No better time to risk everything on Manning. Right now, we have Bush and Marshall… both among the best in the game. Hartline and Bess are good, Manning turns good into great… just look at Indy over the years. We have a good, solid defense that I believe will be even better next year. The question is, why not risk bringing Manning to Miami??? Since Marino retired, have we built anything worth losing? We have very little chance at RG3, no chance at Luck, and Flynn has shone in a total of 2 games (big risk i.e. Kolb).
Down side? Peyton has injury problem and can’t play… keep Moore (who was brilliant this year by recent comparison). He doesn’t cover it, we get another good draft pick next year.
So, we take a shot at a guaranteed future hall of fame quarterback who is, in my opinion, the best overall qb to ever play the game, or we start “rebuilding” and waste talent like Bush and Marshall? It plays out in our favor in nearly every way… risk to reward that’s worth it considering all options. At bare minimum, it makes for a very watchable season for Dolphin fans

This “Manning Mania” is the quickest way to get the Dolphin franchise back on track, I’m all for it, in fact the swinging door of QBs in Miami since Marino needs to be retired. Pennington (in my opinion) was the greatest thing to happen for us at QB out of all the 16 Qbs we’ve started, I say we take Manning, have Matt Moore as a backup, and have our rookie Pat Devlin learn from Manning. I just want to see us go deep into a post season, I wanna see Tom Brady screaming in frustration when he sees Peyton stepping on him while he throws td after td to Brandon Marshall. Look imagine a Post-Brady AFC East. Who owns it? People thought the Jets would with the “Sanchize” that doesnt seem likely now, others say Ryan Mallet is the next Brady in NE (I hope not) it’s Miami’s time! Buffalo is a wild card with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Fred Jackson. We need an instant hearthrob at QB while our key players are in thier prime. Flynn is the next option, with our head coach knowing him, but I’m not sold on him. RGlll seems like “bust-material” or a “no-ring” quarterback like similar QB Mike Vick. Plus we’d have to give up to much to get him, with our number 8 pick we should take a Right Tackle to patch the O-Line or take a D-End that can be the next Jason Taylor. I think the proper roads lead to FA whether it be Flynn or Manning (preferably Manning;) Been a Fins fan my whole life, I’m ready to see a ring

I have been a dolphin fan for 38 years and only one quater back in that time was ever the real deal and that is Dan the Man Marino. Now we have a chance at another hall a fame quarter back in Peyton Manning. Both of these men on one leg and with only one arm are better then anyone in football so why in the world would you pass up on peyton manning after the drout we have had after dan marino retiring. We need peyton and we need that feeling back that in the fourth quarter with one min left against those stinkin patriots and brady that manning can give them some tuna suprise and win some games and make fin nation believe again. Go Fins, Come to Miami Peyton………………………….
