Tannehill may be a rookie, but he extremely smart and will be able to find holes in the secondary. The Dolphins need to attack the Jets when they blitz and make them pay. The Jets may also try to bring their safeties down into the box to shut down the Dolphins running game. If they do, the Dolphins must take some shots down field to make the safety stay back. The Dolphins might be getting some help at wide receiver too, as Jabar Gaffney says he’s ‘definitely ready to play’. We’ll see on Sunday if the coaches agree.
Make Sanchez win the game
Mark Sanchez seems to be the poster boy for the Jets failures this season. Mark Sanchez has a QB rating of 74.6, which is lower than Dolphins rookie QB, Ryan Tannehill. Sanchez was also ranked as the #2 most overrated player in the NFL in a recent player survey. In case you were wondering, number one on that list was Tim Tebow. This is Sanchez’s 4th year in the NFL and he appears to still be the erratic, inconsistent quarterback that he was when he entered the league. The Dolphins must force him to beat them.
The Dolphins rush defense ranks #4 in the NFL, allowing just over 78 yards per game and 3.3 yards per carry. The Jets rushing offense ranks #14, gaining 110 yards per game and 3.7 yards per carry. In their last meeting, Shonn Greene ran 19 times for 40 yards (2.1 yards per carry). If the Dolphins can shut down Shonn Green and the Jets running attack, forcing Mark Sanchez to beat them, they will have a very good chance of winning this game.
After looking at all of the matchups in this game, I can’t come up with 1 reason that the Jets will win. Honestly, I see the Dolphins winning this game by double digits. That’s not being a homer, that’s being honest. The Dolphins are healthier than the Jets and have had 2 weeks to prepare. The Jets are coming off of an overtime loss to the Patriots and are running their mouths, which will only add to the Dolphins motivation for revenge. I think the Dolphins will control this game with their solid defense and running attack and improve to 4-3.
