Dolphins job will likely be Gruden’s, “if he wants it”

Last week, we told you about Jason LaCanfora’s assertion that the Miami Dolphins have Jon Gruden at the top of their list to coach the Dolphins in 2012.  Here we are, 6 days later and Tony Sparano is still the coach of the Dolphins….where he could remain for the foreseeable future.  However, this will not stop rumors from spreading and reports from surfacing.  Yesterday, the National Football Post contained a story (found here) that suggests that the Dolphins job is Jon Gruden’s “if he wants it”.

It is uncertain whether or not Gruden is ready to return to coaching and leave his cushy ESPN broadcasting job behind.  Gruden is in a great spot, if he actually does want to return to coaching.  He can use his current role as leverage and squeeze every last dime out of the desperate Dolphins Owner, Stephen Ross.  If you remember earlier this year, Ross flew to California to try and entice Jim Harbaugh to come to Miami…reportedly throwing around $$ signs like they were confetti on New Years.  By the way, that very same Jim Harbaugh, has the 49ers off to a 4-1 start.

We probably won’t know until late December or January, whether or not Gruden will leave the broadcast booth.  At this time, the Dolphins have a coach, albeit a lame-duck one, barring a miracle.  So all we CAN expect are a lot of rumors and speculation until the time to fire/hire a coach is actually upon us….the time when other teams are making playoff runs.

Who needs Gruden? If we can beat out the Colts for Luck, we could make any average coach look great.

Definitely need a coach who knows how to use the players he has. Miami has talent and a great history, what it doesn’t have are offensive plans that get things done on the field. Reggie Bush, a great running back with speed in space being used between the tackles, duh, wonder why he doesn’t gain yardage. A O=Line that protects as good as Chicago, wonder why pass attack is down. Even great players need coaches to make them better and hone their skills. Small improvements in technique do for football players what small adjustments on a race car do for performance on the track. Have to do those things if you want to win or at least be competitive.

I would love to have Gruden as a coach, because I think he stinks in the booth!! I’m soooo tired of the old Dallas has-been crowd screwing the Dolphins up!! FYI I REFUSE to purchase any Dolphin gear until they get this team going in the right direction, and I really can’t see why anyone else would, to put more money into their pockets????

Thats what I have been saying hit them in the pocket book .It’s the only thing Ross hears. As far as Jon Gruden The man is a QB. guru and a good head coach. But I think needs a strong personnel man with h[m.

Rich, I agree with every word you wrote. Boycotting will help wake Ross up and motivate him to make a change (as if he really needs more motivation!). And I like Gruden too and you are 100% right, he needs a good personnel man above him. Gruden + Luck (or Landry Jones) would help turn this team around for the future.

I hope a proven offensive minded coach will take over the Miami Dolphins. A good Quarterback is also necessary. My only consolation is the Miami Heat and it appears that the NBA saeson is going to be cancelled. Good things fly so fast while pain like the weekly horrible performance of the Dolphins appear to last forever. I cannot wait until the end of the football season.

Blah blah blah, More rumors about this team actually improving. Whatever….. The team suxs from the top all the way down to the freakin waterboy. I’ll start talking Gruden when I see him on our sidelines yelling at the players.

This needs to start with Ireland and work down from there. I would love to see them lose out and get Luck. We need general manager, coach, and a goddam replacement for Marino casue we still looking

Seems to me I remember a bout last year where the defense was keeping the Dolphins in yet another close one and Sparano put the game in the hands of a struggling quarterback while two good running backs played blockers. Gruden is a no brainer and maybe the real problem is like our beloved Shula, it’s time to ask if the game has put Parcells out to pasture!

  • Mike

Oh don’t worry the Dolphins would turn down Luck and get an offensive lineman!!!! Nothing will change, been waiting for change for years now!!! Hell, Marino can stand in there and hand the ball off and throw 10 yard passes! BRING BACK MARINO!!!!

The Dolphins need to clean house . Brandon, Reggie, and other talented dolphins will not flourish in an enviroment not fit for lab animals. Clean out the front office and work your way down. Gruden suggested that he wants to bring back the pride and glory to the fins….this is the enviroment that the fins need.
