Dolphins must change or changes will be made
Joe Philbin
Philbin is someone I have admired since I first saw him on the HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series, he reminded me of a football version of late actor Jimmy Stewart’s typical on-screen characters…slow yet determined. Disciplined and seemingly detailed oriented, Philbin had my full endorsement at first and through most of this year, but as they Dolphins failure to meet pre-season expectations has become evident, my support and trust has been slowly eroding. It seems as though sometimes Sherman is the real coach, Coyle the defensive coordinator, and Philbin just a PR man.
He came into a team that had drafted and signed Pro-Style offense type players for years and without making sweeping changes to the roster, he set up the WCO and Zone blocking schemes, instead of adapting his philosophy to the players that largely made up his new team. Wasn’t Don Shula the type of coach who maximized the talent of his players by running the Ground-and-Pound in the early 70’s, but was ready to adapt to a “finesse” air oriented game as he lacked talent at the OL, unstoppable RBs yet had one of the greatest armed QBs ever in Dan Marino? It is because of all of the above, that I have started to question Joe Philbin’s qualifications and ability as a head coach in the NFL, at least at this point in his career.
Jeff Ireland
No, no, and no! I liked Jeff Ireland for about 1 season, which lasted as long as Bill Parcell’s tenure with the Dolphins. Sure he’s signed good, even great players before. Sure, he’s drafted good players before too, but he has also signed and drafted an equal amount of duds and has for 5 years now, failed to establish his advertised vision of a team, made up of focused, good principled uncontroversial squeaky clean athletes, by often signing the polar opposite of these (i.e Brandon Marshall & Chad, Johnson). This gentleman’s attitude reflects success but success is hardly what the team has accomplished as yet again, the Dolphins struggle to get to a level of mediocrity.
My game plan
A new GM, a new Offensive coordinator and if Joe Philbin can not stand alone as a head coach in the NFL without having his buddy Mike Sherman to rely on, a new head coach as well. I hope that somehow the sun will rise in the West and set in the East for a change and that if my beloved team is close or leading in a game at halftime, it will do what it has to do win the game in the 2nd half. But in the meantime, I will continue to cheer on, and scream at the top of my lungs, even if I know way deep, that my screams will be drowned out in the collective gasps of disappointment coming out from the growing disillusioned fan base,as we witness yet another disappointing blown lead in the 2nd half. My name is Miami Jules and only I approve this message.
