Dolphins should bring back Richie Incognito immediately
Many team supporters, and perhaps even management and ownership, are fooling themselves into believing that Richie is expendable and that he has been outperformed by his replacements. They will point to diminishing sack numbers and a 4-2 record in the last 6 games, but those statistics are a result of schematic adjustments and not an apples to apples comparison.
In fact, the Dolphins will be forced to make adjustments yet again as teams catch on to their tendencies. It is time for the team to place their eggs on the “we’re going to play our best players” basket and make a Super Bowl run.
I had a very strong feeling about this team heading into the season and while the results have given me pause I never jumped ship. They are deep at many positions and the offensive line is no longer below average.
The depth on the inside provided by Sam Brenner and Nate Garner makes me wonder whether John Jerry really is our best option at right guard, while Tyson Clabo has settled into his role at right tackle nicely since an early season demotion.
I have confidence in the current offensive linemen, but the depth behind them is unproven and while Sam Brenner succesfully made the jump from the practice squad to the starting lineup, he is the exception rather than the rule.
Richie came to an agreement with the team to stay home beyond the maximum permissible 4 game suspension, with the idea of giving Ted Wells a chance to complete his investigation. Now that we know that his findings will inexplicably not be submitted until the off-season, keeping Mr. Incognito on paid vacation any longer with the season on the line can only be viewed as self sabotage.
