Dolphins should use Lamar Miller as feature back for rest of season

The Miami Dolphins 2012 season is all over but the crying….actually, there’s already been a little crying.  However, the Dolphins still have a lot to sort out in the remaining 3 games of the season.  Which of their own free agents should they resign this offseason?  Should the Dolphins bring back Reggie Bush or can Lamar Miller be an every down back?  Can Jonathan Martin handle left tackle or do the Dolphins need to start talking to Jake Long about a new contract?  Although the Dolphins are still mathematically alive for the playoffs, the rest of the season should be used for Joe Philbin to evaluate what he has on the roster.

Offensive Huddle

Outside of the Jonathan Martin/Jake Long question posted above, I think the next most important decision will come in the Dolphins backfield.  Reggie Bush is set to become a free agent this offseason.  He’ll probably command about $3-4 million per season on the free market (if not more).  However, the Dolphins have drafted running backs in each of the last 2 drafts.  The Dolphins used a 2nd round pick on Daniel Thomas in 2011 and a 4th round pick on Lamar Miller in 2012.  (cont’d on page 2, click below)

i def think lamar miller should get more PT for the rest of the season, as for reggie bush i dont think they should be quick to re sign him…also put tannehill in gruden qb camp, and in the offseason look for some more standup receivers, but i def think we will be a much more affective team next season we just need more time to gel..

This is what I mean. The finns don’t know how to draft. The dolhpins scout suck. Jeff should be fired. And the finns need rb, wr, and passrushers.

I don’t think Miller is an all round back. You point out in the article that Miller Struggles as a blocker, BUT, if he learn some routes during the off season and work on his blocking he could be quite a valuable asset and be a hell of a tool with his speed coming out of the back field, plus he can get help from Lane and others.
I don’t get why Marlon Moore hasn’t been used more and I would REALLY have a problem with the coaching staff if they failed to all of these players, and use them a lot. I’d hate to see Bush go and I am NOT necessarily advocating for him to go, however, AGAIN, I can not believe, the coaches are failing to see what little ole me can see from my vantage point as a fan and realize what others like me already have, which is the fact that Bush is dancing and hessitating too much in the back field, which has caused a lot of lost yards, instead of just being decisive, granted, not included are traps and times when he (Bush) has to wait for the block. Martin versus Long. I used to love Long but he is not the pro bowler he was during the 1st couple.
I don’t see Martin developing into one, at least not at the left tackle position. I am for drafting O-line players, but then again, I don’t know that I can trust Ireland all that much with that task and even Philbin is a bit suspect with some of the calls he’s made like staying bullish about Legadu Nannee. This is all of course, in my humblest opinion. (sorry I went sort of long on this one)

Ooopsy, I forgot to mention Clay in the “players I REALLY” want to see more of until season’s end… how could I have?

Sure< why not. The dolphins have nothing to lose.
