On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins showed that they didn’t give a damn about the Raiders playoff hopes….After the game, Jason Taylor felt it was necessary to say that he didn’t give a damn about Dolphins fans being upset with the way the Dolphins season is going. During the game, the Dolphins beat the Raiders up and down the field…Simply put, the Dolphins dominated the Raiders. After the game, after the Dolphins improved their record to 4-8, Jason Taylor had this to say to Dolphins fans:
Via Twitter @BenVolinPBP - Jason Taylor to the fans: “You may be upset that we’re winning, but we really don’t give a damn.”
JT, I respect and admire what you have done for the Dolphins throughout your career….You belong in the Hall of Fame and will one day be inducted into the Dolphins Ring of Honor. BUT, you are misguided in your thoughts about Dolphins fans. Yes, some Dolphins fans are upset that you are winning games now because they’re hoping for a brighter future….they’re hoping that a high draft pick will bring a new hope in the form of a franchise QB. However, why has the fan base been forced to focus on the future? It’s because you and your teammates lost their first 7 games….SEVEN!
I’m tired of the misplaced anger of Dolphins players towards Dolphins fans. The root of Dolphins fans anger is the fact that this team has disappointed all of them this season. There was hope before this season that the Dolphins would be, at least, a playoff contender. After an 0-7 start, the playoffs were no closer than Mars. Even after winning 4 of 5 games, the Dolphins would need every team ahead of them to lose out, in order to have a shot at the playoffs.
So Jason, you should care, at least a little bit, about what Dolphins fans think. You should be ashamed that a team that has shown so much talent and promise of late, could play poorly enough to start the season with 7 straight losses. It was you and your teammates that created the anger and dysfunction in the fan base. What do I mean by dysfunction? On a day when the Dolphins completely dominated a 1st place team, I listened to Dolphins fans fight and argue all game long. Some Dolphins fans were giddy that the team was winning, while others were angered by the excitement because it only comes after the season has been lost. If the Dolphins had won 1-2 games earlier in the season (see Browns/Broncos games), the entire fan base would be rooting like crazy for the Dolphins to win. There would be no disappointment or mixed feelings about wins. But instead, we have apathy, anger, and frustration throughout the fan base….and THAT is something the Dolphins players should give a damn about.
