Dolphins Taylor to fans: “You may be upset that we’re winning, but we really don’t give a damn”

On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins showed that they didn’t give a damn about the Raiders playoff hopes….After the game, Jason Taylor felt it was necessary to say that he didn’t give a damn about Dolphins fans being upset with the way the Dolphins season is going.  During the game, the Dolphins beat the Raiders up and down the field…Simply put, the Dolphins dominated the Raiders.  After the game, after the Dolphins improved their record to 4-8, Jason Taylor had this to say to Dolphins fans:

Via Twitter @BenVolinPBPJason Taylor to the fans: “You may be upset that we’re winning, but we really don’t give a damn.”

JT, I respect and admire what you have done for the Dolphins throughout your career….You belong in the Hall of Fame and will one day be inducted into the Dolphins Ring of Honor.  BUT, you are misguided in your thoughts about Dolphins fans.  Yes, some Dolphins fans are upset that you are winning games now because they’re hoping for a brighter future….they’re hoping that a high draft pick will bring a new hope in the form of a franchise QB.  However, why has the fan base been forced to focus on the future?  It’s because you and your teammates lost their first 7 games….SEVEN!

I’m tired of the misplaced anger of Dolphins players towards Dolphins fans.  The root of Dolphins fans anger is the fact that this team has disappointed all of them this season.  There was hope before this season that the Dolphins would be, at least, a playoff contender.  After an 0-7 start, the playoffs were no closer than Mars.  Even after winning 4 of 5 games, the Dolphins would need every team ahead of them to lose out, in order to have a shot at the playoffs.

So Jason, you should care, at least a little bit, about what Dolphins fans think.  You should be ashamed that a team that has shown so much talent and promise of late, could play poorly enough to start the season with 7 straight losses.  It was you and your teammates that created the anger and dysfunction in the fan base.  What do I mean by dysfunction?  On a day when the Dolphins completely dominated a 1st place team, I listened to Dolphins fans fight and argue all game long.  Some Dolphins fans were giddy that the team was winning, while others were angered by the excitement because it only comes after the season has been lost.  If the Dolphins had won 1-2 games earlier in the season (see Browns/Broncos games), the entire fan base would be rooting like crazy for the Dolphins to win.  There would be no disappointment or mixed feelings about wins.  But instead, we have apathy, anger, and frustration throughout the fan base….and THAT is something the Dolphins players should give a damn about.

Good post! I couldn’t say it better. Yws, we, the fans, while perhaps giving the impression that we are “fair weather fans”, are anything but, We are knowlegeble about the game and we don’t like Dolphins players who slack off. We are used to winning, skills, and even perfection. The fans have followed the team, even though it has been a costly experience for us (expensive tickets) to go to games, just to see the Dolphins lose, Now they’re winning, but play-off hopes and aspirations have disappeared early and the fans, having paid the price, have gone into “you show me what you can do first” Keep concentrating on winning and leave the fans alone.

    • RenoFinFan

Here let me clear this up. If I was JT, I would have the same feelings. No body who has ever played sports and has a conscious would ever “try to lose” or let his team lose. PERIOD. Any true professional has a no quit mentality forever, no matter what the situation. And for some idiot to actually take the time to print a suck for luck t shirt, I am hoping they never sell one and has to give them away. Or better yet, come out to Reno so I can install them so deep into his colon his eyes water.

      • Bill

Reno – I understand your frustration…There are a lot of fans that feel the same way you do. As for the Suck for Luck T-shirts, there is no need to be nasty. We’re all here to talk about the Dolphins, not to threaten people. PhinNation doesn’t make or manufacturer any t-shirts, it’s simply an ad for one of our advertising partners. Coincidentally, I’ve actually asked them to change the ad b/c the Suck for Luck craze is essentially dead at this point.

Maybe this would be a different story if the 53 players had showed up to work each week.No they showed up to get a pay check not to play hard and win. Just get paid. Now we are closing in on the end of the season guys are starting to think maybe I had better try a little harder so I will have a job next year.
My guess is along with a new front office and coaching staff we will see about 20 new face’s on the field. Maybe more.
Taylor is past way past his glory years. He is one that’s in it for a pay check. He should of retired 4 years ago.

  • Dennis Taylor

Move forward fins and continue to win, we must figure out how to play a full season of football!!!!

  • rich9336

How do you figure what team will show up the 0-7 team or the 4-1 team.Looking back on each game this team should be 9-2. I think that this team was not ready for the season to start. Was this do to the strike, lack of coaching or what. The first game was a joke the whole team was out of shape.
Some one will take the fall for it most like the coach not the players as it should be.

    • Bill

Good point as always Rich! The players didn’t prepare this offseason and looked at the Lockout as vacation/party time. Yes, the Dolphins OFFENSE held a few practices a week…but we never heard anything about the Dolphins defensive players getting together..maybe THAT is a big reason why the defense looked so abysmal for the first 6 weeks

  • sam

you think they have some lazy players? I do.

    • Bill

sam – Dansby admitted to coming into camp about 25 lbs. over weight..These guys didn’t take care of themselves enough during the Lockout and got off to a slow start. The problem with blaming the Lockout is that every other team in the NFL had the same amount of time to prepare for the season…some just did it better than others

  • Donna

JT, good for you. As a true fan, I am not upset we are winning, I could never be happier. Screw the band wagon fans! A true fan supports their team no matter what. Happy Holidays! Go Phins! Please keep up the great defense. Put lots of pressure on Tom Brady and Mark Sanchez and we will all be happy campers!!

    • J.T.

how in the world can you call a Dolphins fan a “band wagon” fan if you are a Phins fan you are because you love them there is no band wagon to jump on. I do agree with JT but i am also disappointed that we arent going to get a higher draft pick because we need a QB very badly.

  • ace

the fan of 40 plus years say ,coaching suck, the front office suck, and half the players thinks they are great,,, the fans can see this in every game they played this year, it is me. me , me,, and in 9 games this year that what you saw.,,, boy…. that is coaching ,,, to get every one on the same page,, how can you start ch over moore ?????and see dolphins need a big time QB, for 15 years now, and we see this year,,, we have a shot at one,, tell me this a 2and 14 record or 5and 11 record ,,, great picks are with 2 and 14 record,, … the fans can see a great QB in 2012 and that why they would like the team to lose,,,,,,, JT been here all of those years and he should know we have no QB ,,all so all 53 player are playing for the fans and only the fans, no fans, no game, no money, the fans are the Miami dolphins,, we have been here from 1968,, JT, and will be here long after this front office and coaching, all player are gone,,,,, go fans

  • David

Yes by all means let’s finish 8-8! Then we can keep Sporano and Ireland and maybe we can get another quality QB with the 19th pick in the draft. That ought to fix everything!!! Jason, look in the mirror and at the guys in that locker room and if you can’t figure out why fans, who live and die with everygame you get paid millions of dollars to play, are so damn mad at you throwing away another season then you are clueless.

  • Tim

I have been a Dolphin fan since I was 10 years of age and I will be 47 in 25 days. Too pull for you team to loose just so you can get jollys out of seeing 1st round draft is insane. This type of attitude demonstrates you have never a played a sport at any level. No athelete does that and you do not want them too.

    • Leather Jacobs

Nice comment, Tim. I’m a Dolphins fan outside of South Florida, so the only Miami fans I run into are hardcore like me. The whole “Suck for Luck” fanbase is embarrassing; I want Miami to play like they’re in a playoff game every weekend. I went to the bar every weekend during that 0-7 stretch just like I did when we were 1-15; I believed we could win every game. With the exception of a few quarters against the Pats and Jets, we were in all the games we lost this season. Dolphins fans have every right to be upset with the lack of concentration during the 0-7 stretch, but just like you boo the coaches/players for those failures the fact that Sparano and company have a 4-1 record needs to be cheered with just as much passion. Suck for Luck fans, regardless if they’re Dolphins, Colts or Redskins supporters are the kind of people with no loyalty.

      • newengfinfan

Leather, I also live outside of Florida, actually up here in New England. Suck for Luck was embarrassing for you? 0-7 wasn’t embarrassing for you when you were sitting at them sports bars with fans from productive teams? Sorry I’m not buying any of this crap. I agree with the fans here that believe that some of these players are coming to play now that our play-off hopes are over and now trying to save there jobs. The freaking 2013 season hasn’t even started yet and I can tell you, “here we go again another 7-9 season at best” because we’re going to be stuck with CH again. Moore has increased his QB stats and will surely move on to a team that actually can win at the beginning of the season and not when at the end when it doesn’t matter.

  • D Money

in my opinion, Moore has shown that he can be a reliable QB. Now focus on our WR, im sure Marshall has dropped more easy catches than some of our other WR’s have been thrown to. And our RB is at that age where they start to decline in performance. Now all these fans think a 1st round QB (Luck, mabey Berkley) will help…. Hell no… look at carolina. they got a great QB in Newton but they still cant win…. Moral of the story is that one good player dosent make the team great. and a first round QB WILL NOT improve the team overall

  • Kyle Mitchell

i am a dolphan and im with the fans yes we are playing like an unbeaten team but the games we lost when we had the lead we should have won we should be 12 -2 not 4-8 and to spend 800 dollars to watch our team lose at home but win on the road some times is not reasonable so new qb would defantley help us out so i hope we do draft a top qb in the first round eventhough we wont suck for luck we will have a new young qb to help us win more games that help the fans root. and the ones who go to the games arent booing any more right now reggie bush and the defense is the only reason why most show up if we get more touch downs we win more games.

  • panos

I could not be happier that we are winning!
Who’s fault is it that we are 4-8? It’s the organization’s fault that decided to stick with Henne for so long and the organization is certain people.
Mat Moore is 4-4 as a starter. The 3 first games he was tying to get in sync with the offense and follow the game plan and were lost last few minutes (one more game was lost last second!). Tebow for almost the same record (and the luck on his side) is a hero and the biggest thing next to sliced bread!

  • KillerFin

Poor coaching is the reason this team lost the games we did!!! I’d be happy to win 3 of the 6 division games & regroup next year with the new coach & gm!!! Sparono & “settle for 3″ is gutless & it is time for change!!! It will be sad that Henne can’t stay but there will be no guarantee that a rookie is not going to be a bust either!!! KEEP ON WINNING, ANY TRUE FAN IS GLAD THAT THIS TEAM IS FINALLY WINNING!!! NOW GO OUT THERE & BEAT THE PATSIES, BILLS & JUNK JETS!!! GO FINS!!!

  • http://YARDFIU URIDOL2011

First, This is an excelent writing about the lack o vision and understanding by Taylor. All that animosity you should take when you are playing AND MAYBE YOUR TEAM MAY NOT BE 4-8 AND OUT OF ANY PLAYOFFS. You shoul be shame of yourself and way you think ABOUT THE FANS. The only reason that I feel so dissapointed about this Dolphin team is the same result at the end of the season, EXCUSES, EXCUSES, and EXCUSES. Winning, and maybe continuing winning the last 4 game, but for what? I’ am not suggesting given up, but realisticly the season is DONE, no playoffs, rather than go home to relax, and with big fat checks. That is reality Jason, Fans pay GOOD MONEY to watch our DOLPHIN to succed, meaning avance to the PLAYOFFS, and I don’t care about EXCUSES since, all NFL were under the same BLACKOUT. Coaches make big difference, and obviously, you don’t see that in this DOLPHIN team. But just look at the Packers, Saints, New England, San Francisco with a first year coach? All these teams overcame obstacles every single game to avance, no excuses. When this tean started 0-7, the entire organization FAILED MISERABLE. For me, I’ am not INTERESTED in wasting my time watching this DOLPHIN team to continuing winning because WHAT is the point? Yason, I AM a REALIST, I wish I could had your talent to play with the heart that I had. Good luck in continuing Winning, I may see you NEXT YEAR, if we have better coaches and better players.

J.T. I don’t give a damn about you either. But we still do need a quarterback. And if the Dolphins don’t agree then they are doomed to lose for many more years damnit.

  • newengfinfan

Donna, Do you know what “Bandwagon” means. I’m sure the dictionary has a different way of saying it but in a nutshell it means “to join something successful because it is popular”. Not sure if you live in Florida or somewhere else in the world but hate to break it to ya, our team has not been to popular since Marino retired. Up here in New England we are the laughing stock of the AFC East every year. No one takes us serious. Even with the Dolphins on this winning streak the sports channel up north still think the Patriots will run all over them Christmas Eve. Not that it matters the past 3-4 years the Patriots have been so far ahead of the pack that they could throw the game and it wouldn’t hurt them a bit. I’m not one for giving up or losing but isn’t that what our team did for the first part of the season, so why change now? We all know that in order for this team to be successful in the future and be a winning team again we need a QB. What has this team had since Marino left? Like 25 starting QB’s and like 7-8 new coaches? Oh ya I guess if you want to consider me living in New England and being a Miami fan as “bandwagon” then I guess I am, 35 years ago….

Starting to think Saprano kept this website updated. Hasn’t been touched since he was canned.

    Sparano that is
