Dolphins trade Brandon Marshall to Bears for two 3rd round picks

While we’ve all been waiting for Dolphins news regarding Peyton Manning, we forgot that the new league year started at 4pm today.  Moments before the league year started, Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com broke the news that the Dolphins have agreed to trade Brandon Marshall to the Bears for two 3rd round draft picks (1 in 2012 and 1 in 2013).  Collectively, Dolphins fans on Twitter said “WHAT?”

The Dolphins traded 2 – 2nd round picks for Marshall just two offseasons ago.  Now, they’re trading him for 2 – 3rd rounders.  The trade reunites Brandon Marshall with Jay Cutler in Chicago.  You know, they guy who threw to him when he caught 100 balls a year for over 1,100 yards?  Big move for Chicago, who was expected to be in on Vincent Jackson as soon as free agency started.  Jackson is almost certainly now destined for Tampa Bay.

What does this move mean for the Dolphins?  At this point we have no idea.  Could this be a precurser to clear salary cap space for another move?  Some will point to Peyton Manning, but who knows?  I would guess that the Dolphins will be looking for a #1 receiver, whether it’s Vincent Jackson, Reggie Wayne, or even using a high draft pick on a WR.  Wow, I’m literally shocked by this news.  Free agency is now under way, so check back early and often for updates.
