Jeff Ireland’s resume cannot be defended
“Ireland got us Cameron Wake!” Yes he did, and he also got us a Philip Wheeler, a Legadoo Nannee, and Brandon Marshall. Marshall, who although was a 1000 yard receiver, very few of his catches were the “clutch TD or in the red-zone when we needed it most” type and he opened his mouth a bit too much. Chad Henne is also an Ireland draftee, along with a host of other brilliant and yet ever so forgettable names. Let us not forget that as many fans, even my young daughter, knew that going into free agency and the ’13 draft, the vital areas of priority were the offensive line, the secondary and wide receivers.
Instead, boy genius traded up for one hell of a promising young player (Jordan), but one who played at a position that ranked like number ten as far as priorities were concerned… Jordan was a luxury pick by any other name. A luxury pick that nearly cost the franchise their first round QB his health… luckily, Tannehill was able to take the hits and he was spared career ending concussions. More concerning to me, is the fact that instead of recognizing errors of the previous drafts, his royal arrogance stands by his obvious failures and wants to convince you of not what you see, but what he thinks. To the NFL gallows I say.
“Jeff Ireland did not coach the team or call the plays!” Once again point well taken, but may I remind all of the misguided Ireland fans that he was the one who researched and presented the ownership with a recommended menu of coaching prospects. Add to that, the fact that it was Ireland’s responsibility to enlighten the football clueless ownership, that most of the teams roster was made up of pro-style offense and defensive 3-4 scheme players. Yet Ireland’s recommended coaches, had a different and uncompromising approach to the game and that yet another rebuilding process would have to begin anew. No, Jeff Ireland does not coach the Miami Dolphins but he was the one who recommended a coaching staff that would ultimately need different pieces than were currently on the roster, to make it work. To the NFL gallows I say.
“Jeff Ireland is a man with a vision” A vision of what? I gave you credit for making a bit of sense on the Wake and coaching points, but this is stupid! The so called vision called for young uncontroversial, focused, squeaky clean athletes who are so focused on their athleticism that they hardly ever open their mouths and yet he gets the Marshalls, Ocho-Cinco’s and Incognitos of the world… give me a break! Those who like the man so much would rather see the Dolphins dwell in eternal mediocrity than send him packing, get the memo! Join his fan club or something and leave my Dolphins alone! To the NFL gallows I say… get him out of here!
Stay tuned for continuing coverage and article series on the Dolphins’ next moves and articles in the series of “what should happen to “. Next time, the coaching staff. Stay tuned.
