The Miami Dolphins hosted Dustin Keller for 2 days and even took him out to dinner last night. After spending all day with the Dolphins, Keller left the facility and Miami altogether earlier this evening. There are a lot of rumors going around as to why no deal was struck. Some are suggesting that Keller is looking for a deal, similar to the one that Jared Cook received earlier this week (5 years, $35 million). I don’t know what to believe, but I would doubt that he gets $7 mil per year. I think he’ll get something closer to what Martellus Bennett got from the Bears ($5 mil per season).
Others are speculating that Keller was basically placed in a holding pattern because the Dolphins are waiting for other dominoes to fall……In my opinion, that domino is Jake Long. Jake Long is still in St. Louis, but has yet to sign with the Rams. The hold up could be that Jake intends to play LT in St. Louis, but they already have a left tackle, Rodger Saffold. Saffold might not like the idea of moving to RT. One report indicated he wasn’t happy and would request a trade if Long was signed. AHHHHH, just figure it out so the Dolphins can move on with their offseason!
The Dolphins have no shortage of ‘guests’ today in Davie. They had visits from DE Michael Bennett, TE Dustin Keller, G Louis Lance, and LB Thomas Howard. Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel also confirmed that the Dolphins hosted OT Eric Winston as well. Interestingly, the Dolphins official website announced all of the visits except for Winston….I wonder if they are trying to avoid letting Jake Long know that they are actively meeting with his potential replacement.
[UPDATE 730PM] – Bennett has reportedly agreed to a 1 year deal worth $5 million with the Seattle Seahawks. Interesting that he did not get a multiyear deal, as many thought he was the top pass rusher available. In other news, the Dolphins reportedly hosted John Abraham today, a move the team did not announce.
