The Miami Dolphins have let it be known that they are very interested in Peyton Manning. There are even reports that the Dolphins have reached out to the Manning camp within the last 3 weeks and are confident they can sign him. There is no doubt that a healthy Peyton Manning would make the Dolphins a better team in 2012 than they would be with Matt Moore. The only problem is that Peyton is now a free agent…..He’s free to sign with any team that he chooses. And it’s only been a matter of hours since he officially became a free agent, and teams from across the country are lining up to talk with him. Among the teams said to be interested in Manning include the Dolphins, Redskins, Seahawks, Cardinals, Broncos, and Jets…among others. So the Dolphins will certainly have competition for Manning’s services.
The Dolphins have a few things going for them. First, they have a solid defense that would compliment a Manning-led offense. Second, the Dolphins already have playmakers on offense (and an All-Pro Left Tackle). Third, Reggie Wayne, Manning’s right hand man in Indy, said on Wednesday, that joining forces with Manning in Miami would be ‘a storybook ending’ to his career. Fourth, Peyton is said to love South Florida and already owns a home in Miami.
There are other reasons that the Dolphins could be a good fit for Peyton. And we’re sure that when Jeff Ireland, Joe Philbin, and Stephen Ross make their pitch, they’ll include all of them. However, it seems that the Dolphins brass won’t be the only ones making a pitch to Peyton. Little did we know that some other Miami area stars would be openly campaigning for Peyton to come to South Beach. Just hours after Peyton became a free agent 2 Miami Heat players, Dwayne Wade and LeBron James both made their sales pitches for Peyton to bring his talents to South Beach:
@DwayneWade on Twitter: I’m just gonna put it out thr..peyton that number 18 wld look gr8 in a dolphins uniform..steve ross let’s go.. marlins & heat style..All in
Then, in a post-game interview, LeBron James said this (via Mike Berardino of the Sun Sentinel):
“I’m just sayin’,” “Dolphins need a quarterback, and Peyton’s available.”
Later, Berardino asked LeBron about recruiting Peyton for the Dolphins:
“Oh, you guys heard me?” he said with a smile. “I gave my pitch, my one and only pitch. We’ll see what happens.”
“Peyton Manning is a great player,” “No matter what happened this past year, his resume speaks for itself and it would be great to have him down here.”
Add the James and Wade comments to the fact that a freaking helicopter was chasing Peyton’s rental van down the highway this afternoon, and this has officially turned into a 3-ring circus….AND IT HAS JUST BEGUN! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store for us.
