Martin won’t turn over text messages, investigator cancels further interviews
The fact that Martin is unwilling to turn over the text messages should be a red flag to anyone following this story closely. Another odd development in this story is that Martin has declined an invitation to meet with Richard Smith, an independent investigator for the National Foootball League’s Player Association. Why won’t he turn over the text messages and why won’t he meet with the investigator? Does he have something to hide? Who knows at this point…..this story just keeps getting crazier!
The findings of Wells’ investigation are not expected to be released before the end of the year. Quite honestly, I’m happy that the 2nd round of interviews were cancelled. The Dolphins do not need this distraction right now. The players should be focused on one thing and one thing only: Beating the Patriots on Sunday. Even though they’ve said this mess hasn’t been a distraction, when players are thinking about how to answer very serious questions from the NFL investigator, they aren’t thinking about how to stop Tom Brady.
There’s been a lot of debate about whether or not the Dolphins should bring back Incognito. While I think this story has been WAY overblown, judging by the limited evidence we’ve seen, I don’t see any way that Incognito returns to the team. I have to say though, since this mess started, the Dolphins offensive line has been playing better…..much better in my opinion.
Part of the improved offensive line play is the result of the team adding Bryant McKinnie at left tackle (replacing Martin). Another big part of the improvement has been the MUCH improved play of Tyson Clabo. The Dolphins allowed 3 sacks on Sunday, but the line is still playing better overall…..the pass protection is better than it was earlier this season and the line is opening up some holes for the running backs again (it’s about time!).
As for the Martin/Incognito story, it will probably be on the back burner until the the Well’s report comes out…..whenever it does. For now, the coaches and the team can focus on football, which is all we can ask for at this point.
