Miami Musings: Dolphins Irrelevance, Spoiler Role, and Eagles Fans

It’s been a relatively quiet week for the Miami Dolphins.  It’s nice to have quiet weeks, especially when your team is healthy and playing well.  The Dolphins have won 4 of 5, including 3 straight at home. The Dolphins also have everyone on their 53 man roster healthy again, as Vernon Carey returned to practice yesterday.  Having said all that, we’ve read a few interesting articles from other Dolphins blogs that we wanted to pass along to you:

Dolphins Irrelevance - ThePhinsider.com

ThePhinsider.com wrote a story about something I had been thinking about for the last few days.  They just beat me to it!  Just kidding, good job Mosul!  The story talks about the Miami Dolphins taking a back seat to the Heat and Marlins.  Miami has been a city dominated by Dolphins football for 40+ years, but the Heat and Marlins are gaining ground.  When the Heat signed Bosh and LeBron to team up with D-Wade, the Heat stole headlines from the Dolphins.  The Heat are a winning team, having gone to the Conference Finals last year.  The Marlins?  Their new stadium is helping to subsidize some wild, albeit needed, spending this offseason.  The Marlins have already signed Jose Reyes (NL Batting Champ), Mark Buerhle, and Heath Bell…and they’re looking for more.  All the while, the Dolphins are in the midst of another year without a playoff appearance…They’ve had 1 in the last 10 years.

Stephen Ross bought the Dolphins hoping to make them into what the Heat are and what the Marlins are trying to build.  Yet, he’s having trouble selling this team and selling tickets.  The Dolphins have been forced to buy tickets to avoid sell outs in 5 of 6 home games this season.  Ross will probably look to make some splashes this offseason to attract some attention and excitement for the Dolphins.  Hopefully, they are wise decisions and not just moves for the sake of making moves.

Dolphins are Dangerous - PhinPhanatic.com

The Dolphins recent winning ways has garnered some attention from the National Media and other teams in the NFL.  They are playing well and winning games.  The Dolphins have 4 games left and have 2 teams on the schedule that are in playoff contention…The Patriots and the Jets.  The Patriots have all but locked up the AFC East title, but the Dolphins could play spoiler in regards to the Pats seeding in January.  The Jets, on the other hand, may very well NEED a win over the Dolphins in the last game of the season, just to make the playoffs. What better way to end the 2011 season than with a win over the Jets, that keeps them out of the playoffs?

I Love Eagles Fans - DolphinShout.com

Patrick, over at DolphinShout.com has a post that is near and dear to my heart.  Like Patrick, I have a lot of friends and family (my wife), that are Eagles fans.  Although the game Sunday between the Dolphins and Eagles would be much more fun if both were in the playoff hunt, it will still be a great game to watch…and talk trash about!  I do know that there will be a very large contingent of Eagles fans that are headed to Miami for the game.  Hopefully the home crowd can let themselves be heard over that damn E-A-G-L…(you know the rest), chant.  Since the Dolphins and Eagles only play once every 4 years, I’m looking forward to the game and hoping the Dolphins can pull of another victory.
