The Miami Dolphins opened up their second Organized Training Activity (OTA) on Tuesday, but the media was not allowed in….so we had no news to report. Today, however, the media was allowed in and although there was no breaking news, we did learn that Mike Wallace was not in attendance. Wallace did attend all 3 practices last week and has reportedly been working outside of the voluntary OTA’s with Ryan Tannehill and other Dolphins receivers.
Before you get too concerned, about Wallace the football player, the Miami Herald is reporting that Wallace missed the practice due to a family emergency. Coach Philbin does not discuss player attendance at voluntary OTAs, so he did not have anything to say regarding Wallace’s absence.
Outside of some of his inopportune remarks about the Steelers and Jason Collins, Wallace seems to be fitting in with his Miami teammates very well. Ryan Tannehill took him out to dinner his first night in Miami and the two have been working together since Wallace signed his free agent deal with the Dolphins. So, it would seem that Wallace is committed to getting better and should be ready to hit training camp in stride.
In other news, Reshad Jones was in attendance this week after missing one OTA last week. Randy Starks, however, has still not shown up for an OTA, because he is unhappy with receiving the franchise tag from the Dolphins this season. Starks wants a long term contract. Randy is a professional, so I have no doubt he’s staying in shape. He knows the playbook, so his absence from voluntary OTAs in May doesn’t really concern me. However, if he holds out in training camp, it will be another story. Starks is due to make $8.45 million guaranteed for the 2013 season.
