PhinNation Mock Draft!
Like many other Dolphins’ fans, I’m a sucker for mock drafts. I can’t help but check them out, curious to see if there is a consensus on whom the Dolphins might take. In fact, the entire NFL draft process is fascinating to me. There are secrets and lies, strategy and smokescreens everywhere. The truth is that the best teams keep their plans to themselves…..like the GM and Coach are the only ones who know what’s really going on.
Have written all that, we’re going to take a shot at a mock draft. This comes with no inside access or knowledge of what teams are planning to do. This is just a good old-fashioned, let’s throw some darts at the dartboard and see what happens. We’ll do a Dolphins-specific 7 round mock draft (which will include trades), later this week.
I’m curious to see how many picks we can get correct. We’ll grade ourselves after the draft, for transparency sake. Keep in mind, even the absolute best mock drafts, only matchup the correct player with the correct team about 8-10 times in round 1!
Pick 1 (Arizona Cardinals) – Kyler Murray, QB Oklahoma
Pick 2 (San Fransisco 49ers) – Nick Bosa, DE Ohio State
Pick 3 (New York Jets) – Josh Allen, OLB/DE Kentucky
Pick 4 (Oakland Raiders) – Quinnen Williams, DT Alabama
Pick 5 (Tampa Bay Bucs) – Ed Oliver, DT/DE Houston
Pick 6 (New York Giants) – Devin White, ILB LSU
Pick 7 (Jacksonville Jaguars) – Jonah Williams, OT Alabama
Pick 8 (Detroit Lions) – Devin Bush, LB Michigan
Pick 9 (Buffalo Bills) – Brian Burns, DE Florida State
Pick 10 (Denver Broncos) – Drew Lock, QB Missouri
Pick 11 (Cincinnati Bengals) – Dwayne Haskins, QB Ohio State
Pick 12 (Green Bay Packers) – Christian Wilkins, DT Clemson
Pick 13 (Miami Dolphins) – Jawaan Taylor, OT Florida
On Thursday night, I think the Dolphins will do everything they can to trade out of this spot and acquire more draft capital. The fact that Taylor is still on the board, could entice another OL-needy team to come up for him. If not, the Dolphins could plug Taylor in at RT to pair with Tunsil for years to come.
Pick 14 (Atlanta Falcons) – Montez Sweat, EDGE Mississippi State
Pick 15 (Washington Redskins) – Daniel Jones, QB Duke
Pick 16 (Carolina Panthers) – Andre Dillard, OT Washington State
Pick 17 (New York Giants) – Rashan Gary, EDGE Michigan
Pick 18 (Minnesota Vikings) – Clelin Ferrell, EDGE Clemson
Pick 19 (Tennessee Titans) – Cody Ford, OT/OG Oklahoma
Pick 20 (Pittsburgh Steelers) – D.K. Metcalf, WR Mississippi
Pick 21 (Green Bay Packers) – Greedy Williams, CB LSU
Pick 22 (Baltimore Ravens) – Byron Murphy, CB Washington
Pick 23 (Houston Texans) – Kaleb McGary, OT Washington
Pick 24 (Oakland Raiders) – Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, CB Florida
Pick 25 (Philadelphia Eagles) – Dexter Lawrence, DT Clemson
Pick 26 (Indianapolis Colts) – T.J. Hockenson, TE Iowa
Pick 27 (Oakland Raiders) – Noah Fant, TE Iowa
Pick 28 (Los Angeles Chargers) – Marquise Brown, WR Oklahoma
Pick 29 (Kansas City Chiefs) – Garrett Bradbury, C North Carolina State
Pick 30 (Green Bay Packers) – Josh Jacobs, RB Alabama
Pick 31 (Los Angeles Rams) – Jaylon Ferguson, EDGE Louisiana Tech
Pick 32 (New England Patriots) – Rock Ya-Sin, CB Temple
So there you have it. Rip it apart! Eager to see how we perform versus the actual draft. As I said, I think the Dolphins are more likely to trade down than to take a player at pick #13. However, if the rumblings are true about Josh Rosen being available for a 3rd round pick, that could change things! As we wrote about here, I think it would make a lot of sense for the Dolphins to do just that!
