Pitiful Picks: Can the Dolphins get to .500 before the bye week?

San Diego Chargers -1 over Denver Broncos

The Chargers lost a game they should’ve won last week against the Saints.  This week they welcome in Peyton Manning and the Broncos in a key divisional game out West.  The Broncos have played okay, but they aren’t as good as we thought they’d be this season.  Since the spread is only 1 point, this is essentially a pick’em game.  I’ll take Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates and the Chargers offense at home against a Broncos team that just got waxed by the Patriots last week.  Chargers 31 Broncos 28

St. Louis Rams +4.5 over Miami Dolphins

If you look at the Dolphins game this season, you see that they’ve played extremely close games the last 3 weeks.  They lost back to back games in overtime and then won last week by 4 points.  The Dolphins gameplan has been to play solid defense and limit their turnovers on offense.  The solid defense has worked out for the Dolphins for the most part, but the turnovers have been a problem.  I think the Dolphins win this game, but I think it will be low scoring and will come down to the 4th quarter.

As we said in our Dolphins Gameplan post, the Dolphins must protect Ryan Tannehill on offense and harass Sam Bradford on defense. The Rams have Robert Quinn and Chris Long at defensive end….BOTH can get to the quarterback, as they’ve combined for 9 sacks so far this season.  The pressure will be on Jake Long and Jonathan Martin to keep Ryan Tannehill clean today.  On defense, the Dolphins need to take advantage of a decimated Rams offensive line that has Wayne Hunter at right tackle.  Cameron Wake is licking his chops!

As I said, I think this will be a defensive struggle and a low scoring game.  For that reason, I’ll take the 4.5 points that the Rams are offering, but I think the Dolphins pull this game out.  The Dolphins will be playing in front of 2 legends today, as Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor will be inducted into the Dolphins Ring of Honor.  Dolphins 16 Rams 14
