Pitiful Picks: Will the Dolphins get their first win of the season against Adam Gase?
The Miami Dolphins head into their matchup with the New York Jets on Sunday with a little bit of momentum on their side. Sure, they haven’t won a game yet, but they are playing better and there are signs of improvement (you just have to look really hard!). Like the Dolphins, are Pitiful Picks have been….well, you know, pitiful. We’re hoping to turn that around this week!
Dolphins +3 over Jets
That’s right, we’re starting with the Dolphins game in this week’s segment.
By every metric, the 2019 Dolphins are one of the worst teams in NFL history. But their reputation precedes them and sportsbooks are overestimating their futility. Thanks to consistent double-digit spreads, the Fins are actually 3-4 ATS despite being 0-7 straight up. In Week 9, they host the 1-6 NY Jets, the only team that ranks lower than Miami in offensive efficiency (hat tip to Adam Gase, the offensivue genius!). Despite being competitive on the road the last two weeks, Miami is getting as much as 3.5 at home against a one-win team that can’t score, meaning they have a good chance to even their ATS record at 4-4 .
I think the Dolphins play hard in this one and since they’re at home against a guy who’s teams don’t travel well….they squeak out their first win of the season. Dolphins 20 Jets 17
Eagles -4.5 over Bears
The Eagles have been up and down this season, with a brutal in-division loss to the Cowboys a few weeks back defining their ‘rock bottom’. The rebounded last week and I expect them to roll in this one. The Eagles secondary isn’t good, but the Bears don’t have a QB that can take advantage of their deficiencies. Eagles 27 Bears 13
Ravens + 3 over Patriots
And then there was one? If this prediction holds true, the NFL will be down to only one unbeaten team after this weekend, the San Francisco 49ers. The Patriots offense is not what it used to be, but their defense is ferocious. I expect Bill Belichick to find a way to limit Lamar Jackson in this game. However, I think the Ravens, coming off of a bye, playing at home, will ultimately find a way to win a low-scoring contest. Ravens 17 Patriots 16
Titans +3.5 over Panthers
Ryan Tannehill is 2-0 since taking over the reigns of the Titans and he’ll look to continue his good fortune against a Panthers team that is about as mediocre as they come. I’m hesitant on this one because the Titans are on the road, but I think they’re defense can take advantage of Kyle Allen and Tannehill will do enough to pull out a close win. Titans 24 Panthers 20
