The Miami Dolphins need to have a big offseason and it all officially starts on March 12th. We say officially because the Dolphins cannot sign players from other teams until 4pm on March 12th. However, the Dolphins can begin talking to players from other teams on March 9th. So, I would expect a lot of news from March 9th-March 11th that sounds like this: “Player XXX has agree to terms with Team XXX”. Since the Dolphins will have about $46 million in cap space, I expect them to be one of the teams this year that jumps on a big free agent early on. Considering the need the Dolphins have at wide receiver and the number of big time free agents, I expect the ‘big splash’ to come early on one of the big name receivers.
Apparently, I’m not alone. I listened to the Joe Rose show this morning on WQAM, when he interviewed Mike Florio from ProFootballTalk.com. To listen to the entire interview, click here. The most surprising thing that Florio predicted was that Mike Wallace will be a Miami Dolphin. He went so far as to say he would be surprised if Wallace wasn’t in Miami next season. Here’s a transcript for a portion of the interview:
“There’s no way the Steelers are keeping him, they’re not using the franchise tag on him…. I can see the Dolphins, with their cap space, structuring a deal that would give mw a ton of money, he’s gonna be holding up that aqua jersey with the number 17 on it, or whatever number he’s gonna wear……Next morning, 9am press conference with Mike Wallace holding up that jersey, I’d be surprised if that doesn’t happen”.
