Report: Former Dolphins’ WR Chad Johnson agrees to plea deal on battery charge

The Miami Dolphins have long since cut ties with Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson.  The Dolphins have moved on at the wide receiver position, acquiring Anthony Armstrong off waivers and getting Brian Hartline back from his calf injury.  However, Johnson’s life hasn’t exactly been quiet and boring since he left the Dolphins.  Chad Johnson is still unemployed and he admitted yesterday that he is attending anger management counseling.

NOW, TMZ is reporting that Ochocinco is taking those classes as part of a plea bargain with authorities following his domestic battery case.  TMZ is reporting that Ocho will likely not go to prison at all for his offense and will instead undergo anger management counseling and will be placed on probation.  The battery charge was based on the allegation of Ochocinco’s wife Evelyn Lozada, that Ocho head butted her during an argument.  In case you were wondering, the two finalized their divorce on Wednesday.

The incident in question is the exact reason that Ocho is no longer a member of the Miami Dolphins.  The Dolphins are thin and not all that talented at wide receiver (outside of Bess and Hartline), but Johnson proved to be a headache within the first few days of coming to Miami… would have only gotten worse.  The Dolphins made the right decision in cutting ties with Ochocinco because he messed up.  He realizes he messed up his chance with the Dolphins and is now working to find another NFL team to latch on with.  How much does he have left?  Who knows at this point.  But, now that this legal issue is behind him, we may find out sooner rather than later.
