Ryan Tannehill is ‘The Answer’ for the Dolphins
Ryan Tannehill’s turnovers cost the Miami Dolphins what was supposed to be the easiest game on the 2013 schedule. He threw a pick six on the game’s opening possession, an interception in the end zone down 14-0 in the first quarter and then fumbled with the team up a point on a sack that gave the Buffalo Bills possession in field goal range with under three minutes to go.
Eliminate one of those three turnovers and the Miami Dolphins are likely 4-2 and heading up to New England with a chance to take over the division lead. Yet, I am not mad at him or at the Dolphins coaches. They have put the ball in his hands and he has shined even when things have not gone his way.
Who can forget the way he scrambled against the Baltimore Ravens and threw a perfect deep ball to Brandon Gibson to get the team in position to kick a game tying field goal? Or how about the two last plays against the Bills? On third down he rolls left and just overthrows Brian Hartline for what would have been a 56 yard game winning touchdown. Then, on fourth down, he gets mauled by a defensive lineman and manages to escape and throw a catchable ball into the end zone, which fell incomplete.
Tannehill has thrown seven interceptions, fumbled seven times and taken 26 sacks in just six games. Those are terrible numbers. Last year, when Jake Long and Reggie Bush were in his huddle, he threw 13 interceptions, fumbled nine times and took 35 sacks over an entire 16 game season. Letting those two players move on may make sense down the line, but six games into the 2013 season the young quarterback is feeling their absence.
This could very well be a 5-1 football team if Ryan Tannehill did not take game-changing sacks at the end of the last two games. (continued on page 2, CLICK HERE)
