Should the Dolphins consider signing Victor Cruz?

The Miami Dolphins are looking for a bona fide #1 wide receiver this offseason.  In fact, the Dolphins will probably end up signing a free agent wide receiver AND drafting one in April.  It’s not secret that the Dolphins will be looking to add weapons for Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins offense.  With $46 million in cap room, the Dolphins have plenty of money to spend.  The popular names being talked about are Mike Wallace, Greg Jennings, and Dwayne Bowe, as all three are set to become unrestricted free agents in early March.  The one name that hasn’t been talked about much, because he’s a restricted free agent, is Victor Cruz of the Giants.

You know Victor Cruz, right?  The guy who does the Salsa dance?  He’s also the Giants wide receiver who averaged 84 catches and over 1,300 yards and 9.5 TDs in his first 2 NFL seasons.  He’s 6’0, 204 lbs and will only turn 27 in November.  He’s also the #2 receiver in the New York Giants minds.  Cruz and the Giants are currently in contract talks, but those talks are said to have stalled because Cruz is valuing himself too highly for the Giants liking.  In my mind, the two sides will eventually close the gap and will ultimately come to a contract agreement.  But what if they don’t?  The Giants see Hakeem Nicks as their #1 receiver and are working on a long term deal for him.  They don’t want to have to pay Cruz a fortune too.

Im sooooo glad you are not the gm. Build with the draft, a #12 pick for Cruz!? Nice player, but absolutely not. The Dolphins have spent too many years trying to piece a team together with other teams cast offs.

Wha? Have you ever watched him play? At number 12 the Dolphins won’t know who might fall, who might get chosen to soon…Cruz is a proven commodity and he is only 26.

i’ll tell you what… what… there I said it. No this time for sure seriously. I usually like free agents for certain positions ONLY and then there’s always ireland who is notorious for not being consistent when it comes to free agency BUT, in Cruz’s case, he’s too much of a play maker to just ignore… not even Ireland can blow that, it’s a sure bet. There’s also the case of a certain Antoin Bolden of superbowl fame. I hear that Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that in order to pay Flacco Brees’ type money, they (the Ravens) may have to part ways with Bolden, another play maker. I say get any of these two and start using Tighpen and perhaps scout free agency again for a tight end, get the missing piece for the O-line and plenty of the higher picks for the secondary from the draft. DO NOT allow Ireland to get the latter two poisions from free agency… picket Davie, throw yourselves in front of Ireland’s limo or whatever is necessary but O-line and secondary should come, exclusively from the draft. Follow my plan, and we will be playing in New Jersey next Febuary… maybe…mark my words.

Boldin would be a nice pick up too in case we lose Hartline

This team NEEDS 2 WR’s right now!!! Wallace is a MUST & the other needs to be a threat too!!! We have to put opposing secondary’s into a situation of who you ganna cover to win in our division alone!!!

ACTUALLY MAKES ALOT OF SENSE. ONLY UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES WE GET THOSE PLAYERS FOR THAT PRICE AND THAT WOULD PUT US IN PRIME POSITION TO DOUBLE UP ON POSITIONAL PLAYERS IN THE DRAFT

When signing a free agent the only “risk” a team takes is with the money. With an RFA the risk is with losing a draft pick AND a large contract. I like Cruz, but it’s a risk man. Ultimately, I would at least look in that direction.
