Source: Tannehill contract with Dolphins “should get done soon”

The Miami Dolphins players begin reporting to camp today and tomorrow, with the first team practice taking place on Friday.  As we mentioned earlier this week, the Dolphins have some work to do off the field, as they still have 3 unsigned rookies.  The Dolphins are trying to beat the clock by signing all 3 unsigned rookies before Friday’s practice.  The unsigned rookies are TE Michael Egnew, DE Olivier Vernon, and QB Ryan Tannehill.  Things seem to be progressing on at least 2 of those contract negotiations.

Armando Salguero tweeted the following moments ago:

@ArmandoSalguero: Text from source on Ryan Tannehill 4-year contract: “…should get done soon”

This is certainly good news, although I never really expected Tannehill to miss any time from camp.  The Dolphins were said to be very strongly against guaranteeing all 4 years of Tannehill’s contract and required that ‘offset language’ be included in his deal.  It sounds like both sides are talking and negotiations will continue until a deal is done.

I asked Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post this morning if there was any news on the Dolphins remaining unsigned rookies.  His reply was that a source said the deal with TE Michael Egnew was ‘not close’.  Finally, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald wrote last night that a deal with Olivier Vernon is ‘close’.  I fully expect these deals to get done within the next 36 hours, so that all Dolphins rookies arrive at camp on time.  Stay tuned to PhinNation.com, we’ll keep you posted on the latest Dolphins news and will certainly let you know as soon as the Dolphins sign their 3 remaining rookies.
