Sources say Dolphins will target WR Mike Wallace

The Miami Dolphins are poised to go on a bit of a shopping spree, once the March 12th Free Agency period opens.  As of this moment, the Dolphins have roughly $45 million to spend on resigning their own free agents and acquiring free agents that will hit the market on March 12th.  We can only guess as to what the Dolphins plan for the upcoming offseason will be, but we are beginning to hear rumblings about what the team is thinking.

According to both the Sun Sentinel and Miami Herald, the Dolphins plan to make Mike Wallace the team’s primary target this offseason.    Wallace is expected to become a free agent on March 12th, as the Steelers are not expected to place the franchise tag on him.  This means that Wallace will likely be playing for the highest bidder.  Reports last week indicated that Wallace might join the Browns, who have close to $50 million in cap space.  However, I think he’ll ultimately end up playing for whomever offers him the most money.

If Stephen Ross and Jeff Ireland have made one thing clear this offseason, it’s that they plan on being aggressive and won’t be afraid to spend money.  That’s why I can see the Dolphins doing whatever it takes to sign Wallace.  We’ve known for some time that it would likely take a deal, similar to the one Vincent Jackson received last year, to sign Wallace this offseason.  Last year, Jackson signed for 5 years/$55 million with the Buccaneers.  Peter King of SI.com said this morning that he wouldn’t give Wallace as much as Jackson.  If the market agrees and Wallace signs for less than $10-11 million per season, great. (cont’d on page 2, click here)

I’ve no argument with Wallace’s talent, but we don’t need another diva at WR. We tried that with Marshall and it didn’t work out. Just because a player scores TDs doesn’t mean he’s worth more moeny than one that doesn’t… Scoring TDs is a combined effort! The Eagles had plenty of “big-play” WRs on their roster last year but they didn’t have the protection up front and paid for it. I think people are getting a little excited about potential nightmares on the roster. Lets not forget that Wallace was benched last year… how will he act once getting paid? I’d rather us sign the savy vet (Jennings) for less $ and let him teach our young guys how to be pros on and off the field. Just a thought

I agree. We don’t need to mortgage the Dolphins (just like we did with Marshall, to only part ways with him at a later time, citing that he is not a fit with the “New Dolphin mind set” or words to that effect, just like we did with #19 before him. This will cause decade long damage by ending up with no cap room and no wide receiver on top of that too… I agree with Jenning or with that other guy from KC… what’s his name again?

PS Dwayne Bowe. Is Twitter down or was my account infiltrated by a bogus user calling himself King James… the nerve … I was equally stupid to think that his royal majesty would be following a guy who doesn’t even fully understand basketball.
