Stayin Alive: Dolphins’ comeback in the snow to beat the Steelers
What I didn’t like
– Tannehill’s pick 6 – It was a bad decision and it was ugly. That is all.
– 2nd Half Defense – Giving up 14 points in the second half is obviously not good. It would’ve been even worse it they had given up 21 (and the game) because of Antonio Brown’s would-be TD. Side note: The team gave up 21 points in the 2nd half, but 7 were on Tannehill’s pick-6. For the most part, the Dolphins defense locked it down in the 4th quarter, but they were very leaky at times. I know the weather played a part, but the Dolphins defense did not look as good as they did last week against the Jets.
– My Blood Pressure – I am speaking with an attorney tomorrow about a lawsuit I’m considering filing against the Dolphins. Each year these tense moments seem to get worse and this year is no different. Yesterday’s game was extremely important in the playoff race, so when there was 1 second left on the clock, we all started to think that a 7-6 record was only moments away. And then, Big Ben completed an innocent looking pass. As soon as the pass was completed, I stopped breathing. Then there were a couple of laterals….and my heart stopped beating….then the final lateral got the balls into the hands of Antonio Brown….and I’m pretty certain I had what some scientists believe, was a near death experience. Then, the referee ruled that Brown stepped out of bounds at the 12 yard line and I felt like I was hit by a bolt of lightening. I was in pain, but I was relieved because I was breathing and my heart was beating again.
Overall, I was very happy with the Dolphins performance. This was a big win ya’ll. The Dolphins just went to Pittsburgh and won a virtual must-win game, in the snow, after trailing twice in the second half. The coaching staff did a good job of game planning, but their in-game decisions still manage to baffle me. The 2 big takeaways from this game, for me are: #1 Ryan Tannehill proved he could lead the team to a win, on the road, in adverse conditions, #2 The Dolphins are still very much alive and kicking for the #6 seed in the AFC Playoff Race.
Next week, the Dolphins welcome in the Patriots, who lucked into a come-from-behind victory on Sunday against the Browns. We’ll get into the playoff race and Patriots game more as the week goes on. For now, lets just be happy that the Dolphins pulled off a big, character building win on Sunday.
