There was one Dolphins player that said something other than the cliche company line, Mike Pouncey. Pouncey didn’t say he was going to headhunt or knock someone out of the game. He simply gave his opinion of Aaron Maybin in a humorous way (per ProfootballTalk.com):
“I have to be on punt block to say something to him,” Dolphins center Mike Pouncey said of Maybin, via Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Pouncey also added “He’s not even going to play enough plays to touch Reggie,” and “I don’t even want to talk about him. He’s a joke.”
I’ll save you the time from looking up Maybin. He’s been on the field for less than 15% of the Jets plays against the run. This season, Maybin has exactly ONE more tackle than I do. Maybe Maybin should be more worried about finding the field than finding Reggie Bush. Maybe was a bust for the Bills and managed to catch on with the Jets, albeit in a limited role.
Trust me, the Dolphins have taken notice of the Jets bravado this week. The offensive line has Reggie Bush’s back and will be motivated to run the ball down the Jets throats on Sunday. I’m proud to see that the Dolphins didn’t stoop to the Jets level, it shows that they have strong leadership in both players and coaches. Yes, Pouncey did take a jab at Maybin, but he didn’t say he was going to knock him out of the game. It’s one thing to talk trash, it’s another thing to say that you’re trying to injure someone. Emotions will be high and I’m sure this Sunday’s game will be full of hard hits. The more I think about this game, the more I think it’s not going to be that close. I’ll save my official prediction for Sunday, but we’ll breakdown the Dolphins Gameplan tomorrow.
