Where are the Dolphins headed?
The Dolphins missed a golden opportunity to continue rebuilding an improving team during the draft, and that opportunity was missed when the top draft pick was used to select a very potentially great player. But, Jordan was a luxury pick in the opinion of many, instead of less flashy but more basic component to a rebuilding team. More concerning perhaps is knowing that had the Dolphins not traded up, they might have selected Tyler Eiffert with their top pick.
A rather vociferous segment of the Miami Dolphins’ fan base, kept calling for those type of “flashy” selections to be made during the ’13 draft. Why pick a boring lineman? We need to emulate New England and their double TE set success, a pass rusher, who will bring added excitement on Sundays; some fans wanted excitement and forgot the basics of the game in the process. Fans do not dictate the course a team takes, the leaders do. Are these leaders not qualified to steer a team through a rebuilding process or are they just reacting to pressure from above to cater to the frenzied mob? The answer, whatever it is, spells trouble for the team’s future as a winning franchise.
The Miami Dolphins need to focus on winning and putting a winning team on the field once and for all. The fans will take in many cases, a team which is making good football decisions and appears focused solely on football and not so much on image and public opinion. Bars, stadium experience and fancy night clubs are fine for the wealthier segment of the fan base but it will do virtually nothing for the local football savvy fan.
The Miami Dolphins need to stop being reactive and become more proactive in their quest for a new dynasty because nothing will do more for the image of the Miami Dolphins and bringing the average fan back to the stadium than putting a winning team on the field. – Miami Jules (@Miami_Jules on Twitter)
