Dolphins should cut Jonathan Martin…..today
As for Martin, there’s no way he can return to the Dolphins locker room. He quit on his teammates and he quit on the team that selected him in the 2nd round of the Draft. Yes, I know, another wasted 2nd round draft pick! Beyond the fact that he’s a quitter and has shown to be soft mentally, he sucked on the football field. Jeff Ireland was a moron for thinking Martin could serve as the Dolphins starting left tackle. Then, when Martin was moved back to right tackle, he stunk there too.
I know the Dolphins are leaking information now that Martin might be back, but is any team in the NFL really buying that? The Dolphins hold Martin’s rights, so they’re trying to regain leverage (they won’t) so they can trade him. Cut him. Today. There is no need to prolong this drama. Get him and his awful attitude out of my life.
Some will say that if either comes back it should be Incognito. While I agree that he was wrongly accused in this fiasco, the truth is that he’ll be 31 when the season starts and his play is going to continue to diminish. His on field performance is simply not worth the headache. Richie has never been known to be a good guy. He’s got a troubled past and is obviously not the leader the Dolphins need right now. Maybe I’m just holding a grudge because I didn’t get an invite to the O-Line strip club meetings, but his play in 2013 doesn’t warrant him returning.
The Dolphins are going to need to rebuild their offensive line this offseason. The unit was abysmal this past year, which made it tough for the running game and Ryan Tannehill to succeed. Tannehill is about to enter his 3rd season, a season that will hopefully show us that he’s the franchise QB the Dolphins have been looking for. He made strides in 2013 despite having the worst offensive line in the NFL and a terrible running game. Giving him some adequate protection and opening up the running game, will help us all make a better judgement about him moving forward.
