Pitiful Picks: No Dolphins, no problem; Still a lot to watch on Sunday
The Miami Dolphins may not be playing football today, but that doesn’t mean that our Pitiful Picks take the day off. Last week we had a nice bounce back effort, going 3-1. That brings us to 9-12 on the season, which isn’t good, but it’s a heck of a lot better than the 6-11 mark we were at last week!
While the Dolphins are at home relaxing and healing up for the rest of the season, I’ll be planted in front of my TV, watching the NFL Sunday Ticket and rooting against anyone that is close to the Dolphins in the standings! Rooting and picking games are two different animals. So let’s see if we can pull off a 4-0 week and get our heads above the .500 mark.
Steelers -1 over Jets
The Steelers don’t have a win and the Jets are playing better than anyone thought they would. The 3-2 Jets are playing at home against the 0-4 Steelers and yet the Steelers are favored by a point? How is that possible? Why am I picking the Steelers? Because the Steelers are too proud of a bunch to continue losing. They are also bound to get a turnover this week (1. They haven’t forced a turnover all season and 2. They’re playing Geno Smith). The Steelers are also coming off of a bye week and the Jets are playing on a short week after winning Monday night. Let’s go Steelers! Prediction: Steelers 20 Jets 17
Seahawks -14 over Titans
Two touchdowns are a lot to give up, especially when the game matches up a 4-1 team against a 3-2 team. BUT, the Titans are starting Ryan Fitzpatrick (the turnover machine) for the injured Jake Locker and this game is being played in Seattle. Seattle’s home field advantage is the best in the NFL and I think the Seahawks will cruise to victory. Prediction: Seahawks 34 Titans 17
Saints +3 over Patriots
It doesn’t look like Gronk is going to play, which means Tom Brady will still be without his best weapon. The Saints do not play nearly as well on the road as they do at home. BUT, their defense has been playing much better this season, regardless of location, due to Rob Ryan’s arrival. The Patriots failed to score a touchdown last weekend against the Bengals and I expect that to change. I think this game gets to be a shootout, with the Saints ultimately pulling it out in the end. Prediction: Saints 36 Patriots 33
Redskins +6 over Cowboys
RG3 does not look like the QB that everyone was raving about last year. Could it be injuries or his return from injury slowing him down? Who knows. If he’s going to get back on track, this is the type of game that he’ll do so in, in front of a national audience, against the hated Cowboys. The Cowboys are coming off of a wild, high scoring loss to the Broncos, so this may be a bit of a let down game. I think the Cowboys may win, but it’ll be closer than 6 points. Prediction: Cowboys 27 Redskins 23
