Pitiful Picks: Can the Dolphins shock us all?
The Miami Dolphins 2019 season kicks off on Sunday and we’re here to give you our thoughts on their match-up against the Baltimore Ravens. We’ll give you our official pick for that game and 3 others, against the spread. We are not betting professionals, so don’t hold it against us if our ‘Pitiful Picks’ are….well, pitiful!
The NFL season kicked off Thursday night and if I’m being honest, I took the Packers +3 and cashed my ticket this morning. I won’t take credit for that win, but we’ll keep track of our season record moving forward. I’m excited to see how this season plays out, not just for the Dolphins, but for a number of other teams. Will the Patriots regress and show signs their empire is nearing its end? Will the Texans suck and deliver the Dolphins a top 10 draft pick in the 2020 draft? Will Antonio Brown fly to Mars and set up a cow-milking business? Who knows?!? Anyway, onto the picks:
Jets -3 over Bills
If you read our predictions article, you know we think the Jets are going to be decent this season. Again, I hate Adam Gase as much as you, but in the short term, he could make the Jets a better team. Moreso than Gase, I think Sam Darnold is legit and has enough weapons now to put up some points. The Bills also have a rookie QB, but I don’t love their defense or their skill position players. Jets 24 Bills 14
Jaguars +3.5 over Chiefs
This is our upset special for the week. The Chiefs are a good team and I expect them to win the AFC. However, I think Jacksonville’s defense will slow down the Chiefs high-powered offense. And I think Nick Foles will put up just enough points to keep it close and pull out a 4th quarter upset victory. Jacksonville 28 Chiefs 27
Saints -7 over Texans
Like you, I’ll be rooting against the Texans all season. Not because I’m bitter that Tunsil and Stills are there, but because I want the Dolphins to reap the benefits of another high draft pick (the 1st rounder the Texans sent them in 2020). Meanwhile, I think this is the Saints season….I have them winning it all this season. They’re at home and we know they’re tough to beat at home. I think they get off to a quick start and put up a lot of points. Saints 33 Texans 23
Ravens -6.5 over Dolphins
I know the Dolphins are home in this game and home games in September usually mean disaster for the Dolphins’ opponent. However, they have gutted the roster to the point that they don’t know who the starting offensive line is…..days before the start of the season. The Ravens defense will be good and I don’t think the Dolphins will have answers for Lamar Jackson.
The fact that this line is only 6.5 points means that I can win on this game even if the Ravens win by only a touchdown. I don’t think it will be that close. The Dolphins lose to the Ravens when they have a well-constructed roster. Considering they have a…..um…..not-so-well-constructed roster, I think it could get ugly. Ravens 30 Dolphins 10
