The not so Crystal Ball: 2nd round mock

The first round went so well, so why not try it again right? I can promise you there will be a ton of trades in the 1st half of this draft. Although this may be a complete waste of time, as promised here is my 2nd round mock.

I am not even going to bother doing a 3rd round mock because it will be so far off base. (But just so you know I see the Dolphins targeting OT Brennan Williams & FS David Amerson.) Dolphins pick up excellent value in the 2nd with 1st round talent CB Jamar Taylor. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy! Hope this mock goes better than the one from yesterday. Enjoy tonight.

Pitiful Picks: Who will win Super Bowl 47?

The Miami Dolphins season has been over for 4 weeks, but the NFL season has still continued.  This afternoon, the 2012 season finally comes to an end, when either the 49ers or Ravens will be crowned Super Bowl Champion.  Will it be John Harbaugh or Jim Harbaugh holding the Lombardi trophy at the end of the night?  We’ll know by about 10pm tonight.

In our final Pitiful Picks segment of the season, we’re going to go with the San Francisco 49ers (-4) to win the Championship.  In my opinion, the 49ers have a more talented and younger team than the Ravens.  While their youth could be a problem in a game this big, I think they matchup problems they create will ultimately win the game for them.  In fact, I’m concerned that this game could turn into a blowout.  It’s not like this young 49ers team  hasn’t faced adversity this season.  In the NFC Championship game against the Falcons, the 49ers were down 17-0, but stayed with their strength, ran the football, and climbed back into the game.

Pitiful Picks: Can the Dolphins beat Chad Henne in his return to Miami?

The Miami Dolphins head into Sunday’s game, hoping to win out and finish the season at 8-8.  The next two games for the Dolphins might be weak enough for them to get to 7-8, but a rematch against the Patriots looms in week 17.  However, by then, the Patriots might  not be playing for anything meaningful, so that could impact how they play that matchup.  Irregardless, the Dolphins have an uphill battle to get to 8-8 and it starts this week against their own former ‘franchise robot’, Chad Henne.   Can the Dolphins hold back the Wrath of the Robot?  We’ll see…and we’ll get to our pick on this game later.

After 14 weeks, our season record stands at 31-25, middling way too close to the .500 mark for our liking.  Amazing that we are already in week 15, isn’t it?  The NFL season goes by sooooo quickly!  There are (likely) only 3 Sunday’s left in the Dolphins season, so be sure to enjoy the games while we have them!  We’ll try to get more right than wrong this week in our picks, so we can put some distance between us and the .500 mark.

Pitiful Picks: Dolphins in for a physical fight, can they win?

The Miami Dolphins are about to have their toughest physical test of the season.  Though the playoffs are a distant hope at this point, it’s important that they play well and improve each week as they head into the offseason.  The primary thing I want to see if the continued development of Ryan Tannehill.  Tannehill and the Dolphins offense will have a tough matchup today against the 49ers.  Can they put up enough points to win?  We’ll get to that a little later in our picks.

On the season we are 29-23, so we’re looking to create some separation between us and the .5o0 mark this week.  Since the Dolphins are on the West Coast, these picks are coming to you a little later than normal.  This will be an abbreviated version, but hopefully some winners for you, nonetheless!

Pitiful Picks: Can the Dolphins pull of a huge upset?

The Miami Dolphins face an uphill battle this afternoon against the New England Patriots. The Dolphins will be looking to pull off what would probably be the upset of the season, if they can do it. The Patriots have scored over 100 points through their last 2 games and have shown no signs of slowing down. If the Dolphins want to continue dreaming about the playoffs, they’ll need to find a way to do just that; Slow down the high-powered Patriots.

Like the Dolphins, we’re looking to improve our record as the season draws to a close. After last week’s action, our record is 27-21 on the season. That’s simply not good enough! Today we’re hoping to get back onto a little winning streak as we make a push towards week 17. So here you go, our week 13 installment of the Pitiful Picks:

Chicago Bears -3 over Seattle Seahawks

Last week the Seahawks lost for the 5th time in 6 chances on the road. This week they head to Chicago to take on a Bears team that is in a tight race for the AFC North lead with the Packers. Russell Wilson did a great job last week against the Dolphins defense, but will he be up for the challenge this week? In actuality, while Wilson posted a 125 passer rating against the Dolphins, the Seahawks offense only scored 7 points in the 2nd half. I don’t trust Wilson on the road against the ferocious Bears defense one bit. Bears 24 Seahawks 14

Pitiful Picks: Can the Dolphins turn it around?

The Miami Dolphins enter Sunday’s matchup against the Seahawks with one thing on their mind….winning.  After losing 3 straight games in ugly fashion, the Dolphins hope to get back on the winning track.  The Dolphins were once talking about the playoffs, but right now, they must focus on winning one game and inching back towards the .500 mark.

Just like the Dolphins, we need to turn things around after a 1-1 (and a push) on Thanksgiving.  Our Pitiful Picks record for the season is now 25-19, which simply isn’t good enough!  So here we go, with this week’s edition of the Pitiful Picks:

Green Bay Packers +3 over New York Giants

The Packers are rolling and the Giants are reeling, having lost their last 2 games.  However, for the last 3 seasons, the Giants have been 6-4 after 10 games, so this is nothing new to them.  The Giants have a brutal second half of their schedule and will probably get pushed by the Redskins or Cowboys for the division, especially if they lose this game.  They draw a tough opponent, as they welcome in Aaron Rodgers and the Packers tonight.  The Giants secondary is pretty bad, but so is the Packers.  I expect this game to be a shootout, even though Eli Manning has struggled of late.  Eli usually plays his best when his team’s back is against the wall.  Having said that, I just don’t think the Giants will be able to slow down the streaking Packers.  Packers 34 Giants 31

Cleveland Browns +2 over Pittsburgh Steelers

Here’s your upset special.  The Steelers have Charlie Batch at quarterback this week and their offensive line is atrocious.  Meanwhile, the Browns defensive front abused the Cowboys last week and hit Tony Romo on seemingly every play.  I think the Browns, at home will pull off the upset over the injury rattle Steelers, relying heavily on their running game and Trent Richardson.  Browns 19 Steelers 17  (cont’d on page 2, click below)

Pitiful Picks: Thanksgiving Day Style!

The Miami Dolphins coaching staff rearranged the Dolphins practice schedule this week to give the players off for Thanksgiving.  The Dolphins practiced on Tuesday, a day that they are usually off, so that they could spend Thanksgiving with their families.  Hopefully, the Dolphins coaches ‘family’ approach will pay off as they continue preparations for the Seahawks tomorrow.

We have 3 games on Thanksgiving today and will do our best to give you some winners!  We went 3-1 this past weekend, bringing our record up to 24-18.  Now we have to build on that momentum!  Here are our picks for the Thanksgiving games:

Houston Texans -3 over Detroit Lions

The Texans got a scare from the Jaguars last week, but were still able to improve to 9-1 on the season.   The Lions, meanwhile, are treading water at 4-6 and don’t look like the playoff team we thought they would be before the season.  I think the scare from the Jags last week will serve as a wake up call for the Texans.  I think they’ll come out today, in front of a national audience and make a statement. I think the Texans win this game handily and improve to 10-1 and in control of the top spot in the AFC playoff picture.  Texans 30 Lions 21  (cont’d on page 2, click below)

Pitiful Picks: Dolphins don’t play, but the picks continue

The Miami Dolphins will be doing exactly what a lot of Dolphins fans will be doing on Sunday…..watching other teams play football.  The Dolphins are still doing their soul searching, following their 19-14 loss to the Bills on Thursday night. The Dolphins preparations for the Seahawks will begin tomorrow and we’ll have a lot on that upcoming matchup later this week.

For today, we’re going to try to get back on the right track with our Pitiful Picks.  Last week, they were….pitiful.  We went 1-3 last Sunday, but were right to pick the Bills against the Dolphins on Thursday.  Our season record now stands at 21-17.   Time to get back on track people!

Green Bay Packers -3 over Detroit Lions

The Packers are coming off of a bye week and head to Detroit to take on their division rivals, the Detroit Lions.  The Packers have Aaron Rogers and they’ve been playing better of late.  Calvin Johnson still isn’t 100%, which hurts the Lions.  I think this game is where the Packers start their playoff push and win this game by a touchdown.  Packers 31 Lions 24

New Orleans Saints -5 over Oakland Raiders

In my opinion, this line says a lot about this game.  The Saints are under .500 and yet they are a 5 point favorite ON THE ROAD.  The Saints have been playing like the Saints in recent weeks and I expect that to continue.  The Saints still need to sure up their passing defense, but if this game gets to be a shootout, I’ll take Drew Brees and Marques Colston over Carson Palmer.  This game could be a high scoring one, so expect some fireworks.  Saints 33 Raiders 27  (cont’d on page 2, click below)

Pitiful Picks: Will the Dolphins get back on track?

The Miami Dolphins finally return home after what seems like an eternity.  The Dolphins have played back to back road games and had their bye, so they haven’t played a home game in almost a month.  This week, the Dolphins welcome in the Tennessee Titans and hope to get back over the .500 mark.  This will be an abbreviated version of the Dolphins Pitiful Picks, as I am headed over to the stadium shortly.  Last week we went 2-2 to bring our season record up to 19-14.

New York Giants -4 over Cincinnati Bengals

The Giants played like crap last week and lost a game they should have won against the Steelers.  This week, they’ll get their offense back on track and beat up on the Bengals.  Eli Manning hasn’t been playing well of late. He’s too good of a quarterback to continue to struggle.  Giants 27 Bengals 17

Denver Broncos -4 over Carolina Panthers

Peyton Manning is playing like his old self again and Cam Newton and the Panthers are as mistake prone a team as any in the NFL.  I’d like this line better if it were at 3 points, but even still, I think the Broncos are at least a TD better than the Panthers today.  Broncos 24 Panthers 17

New York Jets +6 over Seattle Seahawks

Quite frankly, I hate picking the Jets, but I just think this line is too big.  I think the Seahawks will win this game, but it’ll be close.  Rex Ryan lost his first game against a rookie quarterback when Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins beat the tar out of them a couple of weeks ago.  Rex is again facing a rookie QB and should do some things to confuse Wilson.  In the end, the flight across country and the 12th man in Seattle gives the Seahawks just enough to win.  Seahawks 20 Jets 17

Miami Dolphins -6 over Tennessee Titans

The Miami Dolphins have been on a roller coaster this season. Losing 3 of their first 4 games then winning 3 straight.  Then they lost to the Colts last weekend and everyone panicked.  I think this week, the Dolphins put a hurting on the Titans.  The Dolphins are home again, Tannehill and Bush are both a week healthier, and the Dolphins defense has something to prove.  The Dolphins secondary was embarrassed last week by Andrew Luck. These men are prideful and do want to show everyone that they can cover people.  I also look for the Dolphins running game to be on display today, as the Titans struggle against the run.  I think the Dolphins are a double digit winner today.  Dolphins 31 Titans 17

Pitiful Picks: Can the Dolphins move into first place?

The Miami Dolphins have a chance to move into a tie for first place in the AFC East this week.  The best part of that equation is that the Dolphins simply need to win to do so.  Since the Patriots are on their bye week, the Dolphins don’t have to do any scoreboard watching, they simply need to go out, play their game, and win.  If they do, at this time tomorrow, the Dolphins will be tied with the Patriots at 5-3 atop the AFC East.

Last week, we got back on the winning track with our Pitiful Picks.  We went 3-1 with our only loss coming in the Eagles/Falcons game.  This brings our season total up to 17-12.  We didn’t think the Dolphins game would be close against the Jets and it wasn’t!  This week, I have a much more uneasy feeling about the Dolphins chances, but we’ll get to that in a bit.  There are a number of close point spread lines this week, suggesting many of the games are fairly even matchups.  We’ll see what we can do in this week’s edition of PhinNation.com’s Pitiful Picks:

Atlanta Falcons -3.5 over Dallas Cowboys

Last week, we took Andy Reid’s 13-0 streak of wins following Eagles bye weeks.  We gave the Eagles too much credit and didn’t give enough to the Falcons.  I don’t think the Falcons are going 16-0 this season, but I also don’t see them losing to a Cowboys team that seems to keep shooting themselves in the foot.  The Falcons are at home and the odds makers usually give 3 points to the home team.  That means they think the Falcons are just 1/2 a point better than the Cowboys.  I disagree whole-heartedly.  I think the Falcons win this game by at least a touchdown.  Falcons 24 Cowboys 17

Detroit Lions -5.5 over Jacksonville Jaguars

The line for this game was actually lower earlier this week. However, I don’t think a desperate Lions team will mess around with a terrible Jaguars team.  The Lions are coming off of a quality home win against the upstart Seahawks and should keep their season alive with a win against the Jaguars.  The Jaguars, for those of you that didn’t know, had Chad Henne playing quarterback for them last week…..Chad Henne folks… I think this is the week that Matthew Stafford and Megatron put up a big game and the Lions route the Jaguars.  Lions 31 Jaguars 16  (cont’d on page 2, click below)
