Pitiful Picks: Can Brock Osweiler save the Dolphins season?
The Miami Dolphins are about to count on their backup quarterback for the second consecutive week. So the question must be asked: Do you smell what The Brock is cookin’? The Brock thinks he’s ready. The Brock’s coach thinks he’s ready. And possibly most importantly, The Brock’s teammates think he’s ready.
Unlike The Brock, our Pitiful Picks last week were, well, pitiful! For the 3rd consecutive week, we went 2-2 against the spread, bringing our season record to 14-10. Hopefully, we can turn things around this week, while the Dolphins hope to continue their great play at home, as they take on the Detroit Lions.
Onto the picks:
Jaguars -4.5 over Texans
After the Lions, the Dolphins head to Houston to take on the Texans on Thursday night football next week. The Texans have won their last 3 games, while the Jaguars have lost 2 straight on the road (@ KC, @ Dal). The trends tell you the wrong team is favored. However, I think the fact the Jags are heading home and are in desperate need of a win, will ultimately lead them to a solid performance. The Texans, meanwhile, haven’t played as well on the road AND have a short week coming up, which complicates matters. Jaguars 24 Texans 17
Patriots -3 over Bears
I’ll say at the outset, I hope I lose this one. However, the Patriots are playing really good football right now. It pains me to type that, but they are. They won a shootout last week against the Chiefs and now head to Chicago to take on a Bears team that lost a heartbreaker to your, Miami Dolphins. The Bears defense, which looked so good earlier this season, looked terrible in the 2nd half against The Brock-led Miami Dolphins. they gave up over 500 yards of offense. Yes, they are heading home, which should help their young QB play better. But I don’t think they can compete in a shootout with the Pats. Patriots 30 Bears 20
Bills +7.5 over Colts
Call me crazy for this one if you want to, but the Bills are keeping games close, despite their revolving door at the QB position. This week it’s Derek Anderson. I don’t love the Bills and I wouldn’t mind seeing them still lose this game (for the sake of the AFC east rivals), but I think they’ll keep this game close enough to cover. Colts 24 Bills 17
Ryan Tannehill is out again this week and will probably be next week (Thursday) against the Texans. The Dolphins played a good all-around game last week and managed to battle til the end of overtime for a victory. They’ll need a strong defensive effort again on Sunday, facing a Lions team with 3 quality receivers and a trio of running backs that can take over a game. Thankfully, the Dolphins should get back Cameron Wake and Bobby McCain. McCain moreso than Wake, is vital to the Dolphins success on Sunday. He says he’s ready to go…so we’re assuming he will.
On offense, the Dolphins will be facing a Lions rush defense that has been…..bad. This might be the game where Kenyan Drake of 2018 looks like the Kenyan Drake of late 2017. If The Bock can avoid the game-changing turnover and manage the game like he did last week, the Dolphins should be able to score some points & eek out a victory. Dolphins 23 Lions 20
