After busy Day 1, what’s next for Dolphins on Day 2?
So what’s ahead for Day 2 of Free Agency? Well, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins will look to sign another veteran defensive tackle (Terrence Cody and Cam Thomas are on their radar). The Dolphins are also looking to find more starters for their depleted offensive line. They’re interested in right tackles Austin Howard (Jets), Breno Giacomini (Seahawks), and Zach Strief (Saints).
As for guards the Dolphins missed out on their top 2 choices, but are still interested in Wade Smith (Texans), Daryn Colledge (Cardinals), and Evan Dietrich Smith (Packers).
Running Back is apparently not a priority for the team, but still they’ve reached out to the agents for Donald Brown and Ben Tate. Brown was signed last Tuesday night by the Chargers. As I’ve been saying since the season ended, the Dolphins MUST find a running back who can pick up 3rd and 1….MUST! The Dolphins have kicked the tires on WR James Jones, but wide receiver isn’t as big of a priority as some of the other positions we’ve mentioned.
And we haven’t even gotten to cornerback! There are a lot of veteran corners out there and the Dolphins need to find one. Right now, they have Brent Grimes as a starter, but no 2nd starter or nickel cornerback. Nolan Carroll is in Buffalo and isn’t expected to return and Dimitri Patterson and his $5.4 million cap hit are both gone. If the Dolphins don’t trust their 2nd and 3rd round picks (Jamar Taylor and Will Davis), they must find 1 or possibly even 2 veteran cornerbacks.
Day 1 was certainly interesting, can’t wait to see what Day 2 has in store! Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest Dolphins news, as it happens!
